Ketchup Day!

Friday is my Ketchup Day! I know some call it catsup, but we’ve always been a ketchup family. I’m a fan of ketchup, Heinz 57 to be precise and particular, but that’s not really what I’m thinking.

Friday is the weekday when I catch-up on lots of things … errands, phone calls, medical appointments, laundry, the late-written devotional. In my head, it’s Ketchup Day, which makes it more fun to approach and accomplish the myriad tasks!

This morning (Friday), I caught up on my week’s challenge from Pastor Lincoln, for our Letters of John study series. I’m really appreciating the weekly challenges to keep me reading and thinking about what the apostle John wrote to the persons he often refers to as Beloved. That word is even nicer, so much nicer, than ketchup!

Beloved … John is God’s messenger to you today … you are God’s beloved! Rejoice in that, rest in that, read with that name assuring your heart!

If you’ve gotten a little behind on those challenges, or not yet begun, this could be your Ketchup Day too! Sit with a warm cup of tea or hot coffee, one pen, and your Bible or the Scripture Journal of the Letters of John and read.

Assignment this week: In the Book of 1 John, read chapters 1-5 and mark the word love. Then count how many times you marked love in each chapter you read.

If your day allows just one chapter to be read … make it chapter 4. Book of 1 John, chapter 4. Mark love as you read and count how many loves you found in chapter 4. Then reply to this email with your number. I was surprised at the number I found today in chapter 4.

This is the best kind of assignment … reading to know love, God’s love. You’ll be blessed! After all, it’s Ketchup Day!
